Effective Learning And Quality Teaching Practices

For any business society, it’s imperative to have a population which is both literate and numerate since these skills equip the children with necessary attributes which enable them to create a place for themselves in this modern world.(Bynner, 2007) Nowadays, it’s a commonly accepted fact that the students having good literacy and numeracy skills possess a positive attitude towards themselves and school and moreover, they do further studies and grow into effective and employed adults.(Williams, 2003) In today’s competitive world, it is important and challenging to develop the requisite capabilities in the students to lead literate lives. (ABS, 2012) To ensure the growth and development of students in Australia today, it has become increasingly important for the educators to bring an improvement in the current teaching practices by making them more effective since a well-developed country is a country whose citizens are well educated and this is done only by effective teaching strategies. But the educators cannot be fairly considered responsible for the current situation of the literacy levels in Australia as there are various other factors which may have led to such a situation like internet, television, social networking. Although technology has been attributed with negative consequences, such as the deterioration of culture, language and numeracy (REFERENCE), there are also a number of technological advancements which have greatly aided the teaching of literacy, such as PowerPoint, researching useful/relevant information on the Internet, SmartBoards.
